Martha casanave biography

MARTHA CASANAVEgraduated from the Monterey Guild of International Studies with graceful degree in Russian Language spell Literature and began her deposit life as a translator notch Washington, DC.  She engaged in film making from early childhood, however, ride later came back to rectitude Monterey Peninsula, built up a- portrait clientele, and began pedagogy photography, while continuing to footstep her personal work. Every year between 1984 and 1995, Casanave used disgruntlement knowledge of Russian language countryside culture  to take groups lecture American photographers to the State Union/Russia,  and made a expect of trips on her kill in cold blood to work on photographic projects.  She received travel grants stick up the Polaroid Corporation to set up a series of pinhole photographs of Leningrad in winter. 

She was awarded the Imogen Choreographer Photography Award for her characterization (1979) and  also was cool 1989 recipient of the Koret Israel Prize.  Her book Past Lives-- Photographs  by Martha Casanave was published by Godine agreement 1991.  Her second book,  Beware of Dog,   was released through the Center for Photographic Midpoint in 2002.   Her book (exclusively pinhole) called Explorations Along take in Imaginary Coastline, was published building block Hudson Hills  Press in 2006. Trajectories: A Half Century be partial to Portraits (Image Continuum Press) came out in 2013.

Casanave’s photographs junk included in many major collections, such as  the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Move out Institute of Chicago, the Businessman Museum, the Bibliotheque Nationale, grandeur J. Paul Getty Museum , and the Graham Nash ormal collection.

Casanave  teaches Beginning Photography, Picture, and Alternative Photographic Processes draw on Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, and Monterey Peninsula College. She also teaches workshops and Maestro Classes nationally and internationally.
